2. Go Boating. Lake Pleasant (northwest Valley) and Bartlett Lake (northeast Valley) are amazing to visit this time of year. The weather is enjoyable with the lake breeze, and the water is cold and refreshing. Lake Pleasant has Scorpion Bay Marina with a General Store, restrooms, and Scorpion Bay Grill that offers indoor and outdoor seating. Bartlett Lake has several casual restaurants overlooking the water. You can rent boats by the half day or full day, either with a captain or drive yourself. Visit Boatsetter for rental information.
3. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo. On May 4th, visit the Cinco de Mayo Festival in Downtown Phoenix. One of the largest May festivals in the Southwest, the streets close down and the party begins. Watch dancers, take in a concert from Grammy winning performers, and eat lots of great Mexican food.
4. Short Day Trip to Prescott. If the 100 degree temperatures quell your hiking desires in Phoenix, head up to Prescott for a spectacular hike around Watson Lake. Prescott is only a 90 minute drive from Phoenix and temperatures drop 10-15 degrees. View the breath-taking granite dells reflecting in the lake, and then head to Downtown Prescott 10 minutes away to eat at a historic saloon to top off the day trip.
